Klamath River Fly Fishing Guide

Where do Klamath River guided trips start?

Matt's Klamath River trips run out of Yreka, California. You and one guest float in his drift boat from the Iron Gate boat launch, drifting from riffle to pool to glide during a guided day that lasts up to 8 hours.

How did dam removal affect Klamath fishing in 2024?

In his December 11, 2024 report Matt noted that four Klamath dams, including Iron Gate, were removed by October 2, 2024, and that water clarity had been a challenge since October because of loose sediment. That report is historical; ask Matt about current conditions and availability before planning a Klamath trip.

What rod should I bring for the Klamath River?

Matt suggests a 6-weight or 7-weight fly rod for Klamath River steelhead, and his Klamath report advises dusting off your 7-weight and perhaps bringing a 6-weight as well. Rods, reels and flies are included on guided trips, so bringing your own gear is optional.

Are Klamath River trips available now?

Klamath availability and conditions are by inquiry. Matt's most recent published Klamath report is dated December 11, 2024 — read it here: Klamath River fly fishing report, December 2024. Call or text (530) 338-8526 to ask about current conditions and open dates before planning a trip.
