Matt Dover is a Redding, California fly fishing guide with more than 25 years of experience. He started his independent guide business on the Lower Sacramento River in 2000, has also guided with The Fly Shop in Redding, and is a Federation of Fly Fishers certified casting instructor certified under Mel Krieger.
Where does Matt guide during the year?
Through spring, summer and part of fall Matt guides the Lower Sacramento River, specializing in the water below Anderson. In winter his work takes him to the Trinity River for steelhead. He also guides the Klamath River out of Yreka from the Iron Gate launch.

Based out of Redding, Matt is a true connoisseur of the Lower Sacramento River. He is no stranger to finding native rainbow trout and steelhead on any of the rivers he guides. While the entire "Lower Sac" offers seemingly endless opportunity, Matt specializes in the waters below Anderson, California, where solitude and the possibility of landing a trophy steelhead create an irresistible allure. Autumn on the Lower Sac is like a fly fishing paradise.
Winter steelhead on the Trinity River
During winter Matt's expertise takes him to the Trinity River, one of the top steelhead fly fishing destinations on the West Coast. Most Trinity steelhead range 3–5 lbs, and some surpass 10 pounds. With Matt you explore the Trinity's most productive riffles, runs, glides and pools.
